Conditions and Rations for the American GI

The average American soldier spent each day performing long hours of hard physical labor, while carrying extra weight. They could be bored, doing nothing one moment, and facing a world of terror the next.

Soldiers were given K rations everyday. K rations were food solely to provide energy. Packed full of carbs and calories, but only a step above eating cat food.

Dehydration was always a worry for soldiers, no matter the weather. Water was often treated with iodine or halezone tablets to kill bugs. It tasted awful, but it was wonderful to a parched soldier.
